Answer: You may change your contact information by notifying your respective clerk (in writing) through your chain of command. E-mails and changes over the phone will not be accepted.

Question: What happens if I don’t show up for training and/or exercises?

Answer: If you do not parade once every three weeks, you will be deemed Non Effective. Being non effective counts against the calculation date of your promotion, incentive pay, Canadian Forces Decoration and your gratuity/pension. Attendance is a major factor in you being nominated for courses, deployments, employment and taskings.

Question: What is NES and what happens if I become NES?

Answer Reserve Force members shall be declared non-effective (NES) when their unauthorized absence from duty has exceeded 30 days, during which time no fewer than three duty periods were conducted by the unit. A period during which a member has been declared NES does not count toward qualifying svc for promotion, incentive pay, Canadian Forces’ Decoration or clasp, or the RFRG. NES shall not be approved retroactively

After unsuccessful attempts to encourage the member to once again become effective, the CO shall then initiate release proceedings within 60 days after the member has been declared non-effective.

Question: What if I need time off for a defined period of time?

Answer: If you require time off, you may request to be Exempt from Duty and Training or more commonly known as ED&T. A member of the P Res, CIC or att member from the Supp Res may apply for ED&T. In any 365 days period it may be granted as follows:

  1. up to 90 days, by the Commanding Officer (CO);
  2. from 91 to 180 days, by the immediate higher HQ to the unit (Brigade or equivalent); and
  3. from 181 to 365 days, by the Area HQ or equivalent.

As a member of this Regiment it is your duty to keep your Chain of Command (C of C) of any situation, which may preclude you from attending training.

To request ED&T you shall submit a memo thru your C of C once approved your company clerk will prepare the Request form for signature.

Question: Do reservists have a Dental Care Plan ?

Answer: Yes, reservists do have a dental care plan. Most routine treatments have coverage of 90%. More advanced treatments have coverage of 50%. The plan is available to:

  • A member who is enrolled in the Primary Reserve, who is not covered by any other dental plan or programme and is in good standing with the Unit, may request and be assigned a reserve dental plan certificate number and will be covered by the plan. For new enrolments, the member will be eligible to participate in the plan on the day following three months of service.
  • A member serving on Class A or Class B service (180 days or less) is entitled to dental care coverage for him/herself only, under this plan.
  • A member serving on Class B service (in excess of 180 days) is entitled to comprehensive dental care through CF dental units. The member’s eligible dependants, however, become eligible to claim for reimbursement of eligible dental services under this plan, for the duration of the member’s Class B service.
  • The Unit must stamp all Dental Claim Forms, the form will be forwarded to Great West Life (GWL) for processing. If your claim is sent electronically from your Dentists’ office it will be rejected causing a delay in the payment of the claim. Claims for orthodontia i.e. braces, require an estimate to be submitted to GWL and be approved prior to any orthodontia dental work being done.
