Commanding Officer 3 PPCLI

Lieutenant-Colonel Dawe joined the Canadian Forces in 1990 as an artillery officer.  Following completion of his phase training in 1992, he was posted to 1 RCHA and deployed to Cyprus as a troop commander. 

Upon return from Cyprus in the spring of 1993, he reclassified to the infantry and joined 2 PPCLI where he commanded a rifle platoon followed by the unit’s reconnaissance platoon.

From 1996 to 1999, he commanded both recruit and basic officer training course companies at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in St-Jean. 

In the summer of 1999, he was posted to 3 PPCLI where he would serve the next five years and during which time he deployed on operational tours to Bosnia as a company second-in-command and Afghanistan as the unit’s operations officer.  The last two years of his regimental tour were spent commanding at the company level.

Following successful completion of the Command and Staff Course at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto in 2005, he was posted to Land Forces Central Area HQ as the G3 operations.  This was followed a mere nine months later by a posting to the newly established Canadian Special Operations Regiment in Petawawa as the unit’s inaugural operations officer.  In 2007 Lieutenant-Colonel Dawe was promoted to his current rank and appointed the J3 of the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command at NDHQ. 

Lieutenant-Colonel Dawe is married to Sarah Crowe, a corporate attorney presently working at the Edmonton office of Bennett Jones LLP.

Regimental Sergeant Major 3 PPCLI

CWO Leger was born in Cornwall Ontario in 1961. He enrolled in the CF from Montreal in 1983 and upon graduation from the PPCLI Battle school in Oct was posted to 1 PPCLI in Calgary. Training began for UN duty in Cyprus and Pte Leger deployed with 4pl B COY in April 1984. During the tour he was selected for exchange with SWEDCON for two weeks and as a candidate for the ISCC course in the fall of 84. He was promoted that year at the Men’s Christmas Dinner to MCpl.

He was employed as a Section 2I/C still in 4 Pl B Coy for Ex Brim Frost in Alaska in Jan 85 and RV85, then as a Section Commander till he took on the responsibilities of B Coy Signaller. He was then employed as TAC 9er signaller for LCol Alstrom and LCol Vince Kennedy.

MCpl Leger was then promoted to Sgt in 1988, where he resumed Section Commanders, duties back in 4 Pl till subsequently posted to CFOCS in Chilliwack in 1989 where he trained OCDTs in BOTC till 1992. During his posting he had the opportunity to attend the SLC and have an active role in CFB Chilliwack’s 50th Anniversary Celebration as Asst SO, Fundraising and Asst Stage Manager where he was awarded The Base Commanders Commendation for his efforts.  He was then posted back to 1 PPCLI in Calgary where he filled Section Commander duties and Coy Tn Sgt. Promoted to WO in 1993 and deployed to Croatia in 1994 with the 1 PPCLI Battel Group from April to Oct 1994.

Upon return from UN duty he was the Bn Sigs WO until a posting to the Inf Sch in Gagetown in 1996.  While there he occupied several positions from SME Small Arms to CSM of the LAV implementation cell. During his tenure he attended the NATO FIBUA Inst Crse at Warminster in the UK, NATO Snr NCO Orientation Crse in Oberamagau Germany, Armoured Gunnery Specialist Crse at the Armoured Sch and the QL7 CSM Course and the occupied the Ops WO position for a year till his posting back to 1 PPCLI in Edmonton in 2003. There he was CSM A Coy, the Red Devils. He deployed to OP Peregrine fighting fires in Barrier and Kelowna and deployed to Afghanistan in 2006 as part of TF Orion still with A COY from Jan- Sept. Upon return MWO Leger was the QMSI of 1 PPCLI until a rapid posting to DMilC as the PPCLI Career manager in Jan 2007.

In January 2009 MWO Leger was promoted to CWO and appointed and posted as RSM 3 PPCLI. He is married to Sandra, has a son Zachary who is 11 and a daughter Emily who is 10. An avid outdoorsman he enjoys hunting, fishing, hiking, Karate and sports in general.
